This short guide is a condensation of some of the advice in our Third Age Travel Tips, Tricks and Techniques book. It is the aim of the book to show you just how easy and how inexpensive travel is. It’s just details. But you need to make that first step. You have to want to do it.

We have many friends who never travel. We ask them why. They give many reasons, but they are all variants on just four themes:

  • I don’t have the money.
  • I don’t have the time.
  • It’s all too much trouble.
  • It’s dangerous.

These aren’t reasons – they are excuses, and they are all pathetic. An excuse is an unreasonable reason. Everybody tries to justify what they do – or don’t do – by inventing justifications for their indolent behavior. Children are very good at it, and most of us carry the habit into adulthood, even into the Third Age.

In this short guide we expose each of these excuses and a number of other myths about travel. They are pertinent to most travelers, but they are particularly relevant to the Third Age Traveler. Most of us get more conservative as we grow older, and conservatism is the enemy of travel.
